HC Deb 11 July 1910 vol 19 cc15-6
Mr. LAWSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether those who apply for employment at the Labour Exchanges are given any information in respect to the demand for labour in particular trades in the Dominions and Colonies overseas; whether the Labour Exchanges are in communication with the Emigrants' Information Office, and, if so, to what extent; whether it is the intention of the Government to open up communication with, and to obtain information in regard to the supply of and demand for labour from, the labour departments in the various Colonies; and whether he has considered the importance and desirability of linking up the Labour Exchanges of the Empire?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

The Central Office of Labour Exchanges is in constant communication with the Emigrants' Information Office, who supply the latest information available as to the labour conditions in the Dominions and Colonies overseas for exhibition in the waiting-rooms of Exchanges. The subjects dealt with in the last two paragraphs of the question are at present receiving careful consideration.
