§ Mr. SNOWDENasked the Postmaster-General whether he will take steps to ensure that the scale of pay of the proposed girl messengers in the Post Office is not inferior to that of the boy indoor messengers whom they are intended to displace, seeing that the duties performed by them will be the same as those now performed by boys?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELThe scale of pay for girls, whom it may be decided to substitute for indoor boy messengers, has not yet been settled. But I would observe that the less strength of girls will necessitate the heavier duties which fall to this class being still performed by boys. This will make the services of the girls of less value than that of the boys, and their remuneration will consequently be somewhat less.
