HC Deb 24 February 1910 vol 14 c336
Captain MORRISON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether instructions have been issued to Labour Exchanges not to advance railway fares to men who have obtained situations in other towns and have not sufficient money to pay their fares?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

The instructions to which the hon. Member refers were purely temporary and have now been superseded, arrangements having been made for the advance and recovery of travelling expenses to workmen sent to situations found through Labour Exchanges.

Mr. LEVERTON HARRIS

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he could say how many applications have already been received at the Labour Exchange Offices in the County of London from persons seeking employment; and for how many of these persons work has been found through the instrumentality of these Exchanges?

Mr. BUXTON

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on this subject to the right hon. Member for Wimbledon and the hon. Member for Burnley yesterday.
