HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 c2314
Sir JOHN DEWAR

asked the Lord Advocate whether he proposes to introduce legislation to restore the law of Scotland in regard to the liability of an heir of entail to take over the sheep stock on a farm at a fixed price upon the termination of the lease, to what it was commonly considered t0o be before the decision in the Ardery case?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

A similar question was put to me on 29th March of last year by the late Member for North Ayrshire, when I answered as follows:— If the Government can be assured on the part of those whose interest are involved in the question which was decided in the ease referred to, that there is a measure of practical unanimity with regard to the character of the legislative remedy desired, they will be prepared to consider what steps can be taken to secure the object mentioned in the hon. Gentleman's question. I have nothing to add to that answer.

Sir J. DEWAR

May I ask if there was not considerable unanimity on all the electioneering platforms during the late election, and whether the Lord Advocate will not now introduce a Bill to find out who, if any, are opposed to it?

Mr. URE

I am not aware of that. At any rate, we cannot introduce legislation in this Session of Parliament.
