HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 cc2321-2
Mr. STANIER (for Mr. Charles Bathurst)

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he is acquainted with the report of a committee of inquiry which sat in Chicago in 1899 to examine the food then being exported into England from the United States; and if he has any information as to whether the various forms of adulteration declared by that committee to be generally practised are still continued?

Mr. BURNS

I am acquainted with the Report referred to. As a result of that Report and subsequent legislation, a diminution of mis-description and adulteration of foods has no doubt taken place.

Mr. STANIER (for Mr. Charles Bathurst)

asked whether the Government of the United States of America have, so far as he is aware, held any official inquiry in recent years into the forms of adulteration of articles of food, drink, or clothing in that country?

Mr. BURNS

The answer to the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, so far as regards articles of food and drink. I have no information in regard to articles of clothing.
