HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 cc2303-4
Captain COOPER

asked whether the Department have considered the advisa- bility of circulating among horse breeders in Ireland a pamphlet similar to that issued by the English Board of Agriculture, giving a full description of the various types of horses required for Army purposes, in order to encourage the breeding of suitable horses?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department have considered this matter, but it does not appear to them that there is any special need for the issue of such a pamphlet in Ireland, where the class of horses required for the Army is well known. If, however, there is any strong desire expressed for it, the Department will be prepared to have the pamphlet circulated in Ireland.

Captain COOPER

asked whether the Department of Agriculture will point out to county committees of agriculture, and other bodies organising shows which receive grants from the funds of the Department, that it is desirable that prizes should be offered in such shows for horses suitable for purchase by the Army authorities for remount purposes.

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department will consider this suggestion.
