HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 cc1859-60
Mr. O'GRADY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the India Office has yet received a Report from the Government of India regarding the proposed reorganisation of the provincial service of the Indian Public Works Depart- ment; and whether, as this Report is overdue, and pecuniary loss is being caused to the officers concerned by the delay of over two years which has already occurred, the Secretary of State will communicate with the Government of India with a view to the speedy submission of its recommendations?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)

The Government of India recently laid proposals before Local Governments, but have not yet had time to receive replies. The Secretary of State will bear the matter in mind with a view to ensuring that no unnecessary delay takes place, but the question is one of considerable difficulty.
