HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 cc1870-1
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the Home Secretary if he is aware that over twelve months ago two houses and land attached, situated at 442 and 444, Barking Road, Plaistow, were purchased for the purpose of erecting a police station on the site; if he can state the price paid for the land and houses; how long will it be before the work will be commenced; and if he is aware that the accommodation at present existing at Barking Road police station, Plaistow, is insufficient for the work of the force?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The purchase of a site in the Barking Road was made by direction of my predecessor in office at a cost of £2,300. Plans for the new station are in course of preparation, and it is hoped that, notwithstanding the pressure of other and more urgent building works, the erection of this station will be commenced within the current financial year. The inadequacy of the accommodation at the existing station was the reason for the purchase of the new site.
