HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 c1858
Mr. LINCOLN

asked whether any attacks on, or interference with, caravans, posts, or travellers have taken place during the past ten weeks in the following places in Persia, namely, Tabriz, Ardelsil, Khasvine, Rescht, and along the road to the Caspian Sea; and whether particulars can be given of such attacks?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

We have no information later than 24th March, when it was anticipated that the departure of Sattar and Bagher Khans from Tabriz would have a tranquillising effect. Order prevailed at Resht, but minor disturbances had occurred between Ardebil and the Caspian. We have no recent report from Kasvin.

Mr. DILLON

Why was it anticipated that the departure of the Khans would have a tranquillising effect?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

Because they had been a source of trouble in the past.
