HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 cc1885-6
Mr. CARLILE

asked the President of the Board of Education if he can state the names of the present members of the Anglesey local education authority, and to what religious denominations they belong?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Runciman)

No, Sir, the Board have no information on either point.

Mr. CARLILE

Will the right hon. Gentleman obtain the information and let me have it?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have no right to ask for the information. The hon. Gentleman can take his own means to obtain it.

Mr. CARLILE

asked whether, while there are four religious denominations in Llangoed, near Beaumaris, all the four school managers recommended for appointment by the selection committee of the Anglesey local education authority are members of one denomination only; and whether this policy of the authority referred to has the sanction of the Board, of Education?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I understand the question to refer to the appointment by the local education authority of managers of public elementary schools under Section 6 of the Education Act, 1902. That is a matter entirely within the jurisdiction of the authority, and does not require the sanction of the Board of Education. The Board have no information as to what actually has been done in this connection by the authority in question.

Mr. CARLILE

Will the right hon. Gentleman obtain the information?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No, Sir.
