§ Mr. WILLIAM YOUNGERasked the right hon. Gentleman if he will instruct commanding officers of units, when considering the casting of troop-horses, to follow a recent example by destroying such horses as, owing to disease or infirmity, are not fit for reasonable work rather than by disposing of them by sale?
§ Mr. HALDANEHorses prior to casting are examined by a veterinary surgeon who, in each case, recommends to the approving authority whether the animal should be sold or destroyed. Orders to this effect have been in existence for many years, and there is no reason to believe that they are not carried out.
