HC Deb 11 April 1910 vol 16 cc876-7
Mr. AINSWORTH

asked the Lord Advocate when he expects that the. House of Lords appeal in the case of Stewart v. Williamson will probably be reached?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

I am unable at present to say when this appeal will be reached. I am informed that it is now set down on the list of Scottish Appeals ready for hearing, and will be heard in due course.

Mr. AINSWORTH

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there is any reasonable chance that the case will be heard before the end of the month?

Mr. URE

I think not before the end of the month.

MARQUESS Of TULLIBARDINE

Is it the case that most sheep lets are made at the Whitsuntide term, and therefore that, owing to the Government having delayed dealing with the matter, as promised by the Lord Advocate himself, no legislation upon this subject can now be of any use for another year?

Mr. URE

The matter does not arise out of my answer. There will be no delay on the part of the Government.
