HC Deb 11 April 1910 vol 16 cc867-8
Mr. BARNES (for Mr. Snowden)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he would consider the question of bringing waiters and waitresses employed on licensed premises within the scope of the promised legislation on shop hours, in view of the hours now commonly worked by such persons?

Mr. CHURCHILL

If the hon. Member will refer to the Government Shops Bill introduced last Session, he will see that, with the exception of the provision prohibiting employment after 8 p.m. on more than three days in the week the provisions of Part I. of the Bill as to hours of employment, meal times, etc., apply to any person employed in serving, or otherwise in connection with the sale of, intoxicating liquors or refreshments for consumption on the premises. Waiters and waitresses so employed on licensed premises are therefore included in the scope of the Bill.
