HC Deb 11 April 1910 vol 16 cc874-5
Mr. BOYTON

asked the President of the Local Government Board if his attention has been called to the fact that at the recent board of guardians election in the borough of St. Marylebone one candidate unsuccessfully presented himself for election in no less than seven wards; and that in six out of the seven of these wards there would have been no contest had it not been for this candidate, who only secured an aggregate vote of 225; and whether he will consider the propriety of introducing legislation to limit vexatious candidatures in order to prevent needless cost being forced upon the ratepayers?

Mr. BURNS

I have received a communication on the subject to which the question relates. It has not hitherto been found necessary to provide expressly against such proceedings as are alluded to, but the point shall be noted.
