HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 c15
Captain GILMOUR

asked the Lord Advocate if he had received a petition from a committee representing the ordinary clerks in the various sheriff clerks' departments in Lanarkshire; and, if so, whether he was prepared to include the ordinary staff of clerks within the scope of the inquiry into the position of sheriff clerk deputes?

Mr. URE

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative.

Mr. WATT

Are we to understand that only sheriff clerks depute have grievances in their offices and that the sheriff clerks on the ordinary staff have not?

Mr. URE

The sheriff clerks depute are embraced within the enquiry, but not the ordinary clerks, who are servants of the sheriff clerks.
