HC Deb 16 May 1899 vol 71 c730
SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War if a reorganisation of the brigade system of the Volunteer force is in contemplation with a view to making the brigade units more efficient for mobilisation and easy to handle for peace training; and, in such case, if the Secretary of State will take care that brigades shall be left, as far as possible, to the charge of these who, on mobilisation, will be available for that purpose, and not devoted solely to the training as brigadiers of colonels in the Regular Service, and as staff officers of these serving temporarily at a depÔt.

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. WYNDHAM,) Dover

There is no impending change, but as Volunteer brigadiers resign their appointments will be filled by colonels commanding regimental districts. These officers will command the brigades on mobilisation.
