HC Deb 12 May 1899 vol 71 c490
MR. SMITH-BARRY (Hunts, Huntingdon)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland a Question of which I have given him private notice, namely, whether it is true, as reported in The Times of to-day, that the Congested Districts Board have entered into an agreement for the purchase of the Dillon estate, in County Mayo, occupied by 4,000 tenants; and, whether the estate is situated within or without the existing agrarian agitation in Mayo.

MR. G. W. BALFOUR

It is true. The Congested Districts Board have entered into an agreement to purchase the Dillon estates in counties Mayo and Roscommon. I am not aware of any agitation in connection with any part of the Dillon estates.
