HC Deb 24 March 1899 vol 69 cc337-8
MR. SCOTT

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Lord Cromer has given his official sanction not merely to the removal of the Mahdi's body from its tomb, but to its mutilation and the throwing of the headless body into the Nile; and whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government in any way to express disapproval of these last proceedings?

MR. BRODRICK

Lord Cromer's opinion as to the whole proceeding has been published, and there is nothing to add to it. The matter does not appear to call for any further action on the part of Her Majesty's Government.
