HC Deb 24 March 1899 vol 69 c337
Mr. J. ELLIS

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Government has been informed of the results of the recent explorations of the valleys of the Blue and White Niles by Sir W. E. Garston, Chief of the Egyptian Irrigation Department; whether it is correct that he has stated that the possession of the Soudan beyond Khartoum can be of no practical advantage to any civilised Power, and affords no field for the application of capital; and whether the Report from Sir W. E. Garston, as to his exploration, can be laid upon the Table, and distributed?

MR. BRODRICK

Sir W. Garston has only just returned to Cairo, and no information as to the nature of his Report has yet been received.

Mr. J. ELLIS

Will it be asked for?
