MACALEESE (Monaghan, N.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the landlord or the tenant is liable to pay the portion of the rates formerly paid by the landlord, in cases where an agreement for sale has been arrived at, but the sale has not been sanctioned by the Land Commissioners?
§ MR. GERALD BALFOURAssuming the agreement to be an agreement to purchase under the Land Purchase Act, if such an agreement falls through owing to the refusal of the Land Commissioners to sanction it, the respective parties are remitted to their original position.
