HC Deb 21 March 1899 vol 68 c1558
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he will state how many railway level-crossings there are in Scotland which pass over public thoroughfares, and which, being private property, do not come under the jurisdiction of the Board of Trade or any Government Department?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

I am not in possession of the information for which the honourable Member asks. Inasmuch as all such crossings are within the jurisdiction of the county councils and burgh councils, who are, as the case may be, the road authority, and as there is no reason to suppose that the road authorities fail in their duty to provide for public safety, I can see no useful purpose in obtaining the information desired, even if it were possible to do so.
