HC Deb 21 March 1899 vol 68 c1569
MR. O'KEEFFE (Limerick)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, inasmuch as the fiscal powers of grand jurors have now ceased under the Local Government Act, if the high sheriffs of Irish counties are bound to observe any property qualification in summoning future grand jurors to discharge the duties of considering Bills on criminal indictment at assizes in Ireland?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

No change whatever has been made in the position of grand juries so far as their relation to criminal business is concerned, nor does the Local Government Act affect in any way the obligation otherwise imposed upon high sheriffs, as to the qualifications of persons summoned to serve as grand jurors.
