HC Deb 20 March 1899 vol 68 c1313
CAPTAIN JESSEL (St. Pancras, S.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War if he could state how, in view of his recent promise to the effect that regiments of Cavalry on the higher establishment should not be called upon to furnish drafts for regiments serving abroad, drafts will be supplied during the coming year to Lancer regiments in India; and whether he is aware that both Lancer regiments at home are on the higher establishment?

MR. POWELL WILLIAMS

Drafts for the two Lancer regiments in India will be furnished from the depot at Canterbury, supplemented by a certain number of men from the 21st Lancers, should that regiment be brought back from Egypt next trooping season.
