HC Deb 17 March 1899 vol 68 c1152
MR. GILHOOLY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, in view of the decision that Doctor Bird, J.P. (brother to Mr. William S. Bird, J.P., Receiver on the White Estate, near Bantry), is entitled to have the lands of Beach considered (for the purpose of sale) an agricultural holding, and that a valuation of them has been ordered, the land will be disposed of to Doctor Bird before the other tenants on the White Estate, who have already sent in proposals to purchase their holdings, will get an opportunity of doing so?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am informed by the Registrar of the Land Judge's Court that all persons interested in the estate consented to Doctor Bird's holding being put into a separate lot for the purpose of a sale. As regards the other tenants, no such consent was given, and the question whether the 40th section will ever be applied, and when, depends on the exercise of the Court's discretion on facts not ascertained.
