HC Deb 17 March 1899 vol 68 c1141
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN (Kilkenny)

On behalf of the honourable Member for East Clare, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to a resolution recently passed by the Grand Jury of the county of Clare, in which they state that, whereas they have already presented a sum of £625 in aid of the Shannon Development Company by way of subsidy, without receiving any tangible advantage in respect of the expenditure, and request that the Board of Works do establish a coach service between Scariff (in connection with the Shannon steamers) and Ennis (in connection with the West Clare Railway), from the months of April to October daily each way; and whether the request contained in this resolution can be granted?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

The request contained in the resolution referred to cannot be granted, as the entire amount made available under the Railways Act of 1896 has already been hypothecated.
