HC Deb 16 March 1899 vol 68 cc985-6
MR. M'KENNA (Monmouth, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the grave inconveniences suffered by a large number of jurors who were summoned to attend the Assizes held at Monmouth on 20th February, and were informed in Court that their services would not be required, as there was only one case to be tried; and whether any steps can be taken to prevent as far as possible the useless summoning of jurors?

MR. JESSE COLLINGS

The Secretary of State is aware of the inconvenience sometimes caused to jurors by their being summoned when no occasion arises for their services; but he does not see his way to propose legislation to prevent this.
