HC Deb 02 March 1899 vol 67 cc1036-7
MR. MCKENNA

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether, having regard to the great public interest in the proposed alterations and erections at the corner of Parliament Street, he will furnish, for the inspection of Members of Parliament and the public, a model showing precisely the form and position of the contemplated buildings, as well as their relation to the line of Parliament Street?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. AKERS DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine's

To construct a model would cost more, and cause more delay, than I think the honourable Gentleman himself would think justifiable. I have already undertaken to exhibit the plans and elevations of the proposed new buildings, and with these I will exhibit a plan showing the future alignment of Whitehall from the Admiralty to Parliament Square. When honourable Members have these before them, I trust they will agree that they have all the information they will require.

MR. MCKENNA

Where will the plans be shown?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS

In the Tea Room.
