I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he can inform the House what percentage of Roman Catholics to other denominations have held chairs in the three Queen's Colleges since 1858; the proportion of Roman Catholics to other denominations who have held professorships in each of the three Queen's Colleges; and the percentage of Roman Catholics who have held the Chair of Mental and Moral Philosophy in each of the colleges from 1858 to the present time.

The number Of persons who have held chairs since 1858, in each of the Queen's Colleges at Belfast, Cork, and Galway has been 49, 45, and 42, of whom 3, 15, and 10 respectively were Roman Catholics. In only one of the colleges, that at Galway, has the Chair of Mental and Moral Science been held by a Roman Catholic. Two persons only have held that chair at Galway.
