HC Deb 15 June 1899 vol 72 c1187
MR. STEADMAN

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster-General, if there is any rule or regulation preventing a rural postman performing part of the official duties of a sub-postmaster, provided that the work so performed is checked or supervised by the sub-postmaster.

MR. HANBURY

There is no regulation on the point referred to; but it is thought undesirable that a rural postman should perform any duties in the office of a sub-postmaster, and there are not many cases in which a rural postman would have sufficient time at his disposal to admit of Ids giving useful service as an assistant in a sub-office.
