§ MR. BUCHANAN (Aberdeenshire, E.)I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he could state what are the higher class secondary and technical schools which come within the scope of paragraph 3 of the Minute of 27th April, 1899.
§ *THE JUNIOR LORD OF THE TREASURY (MR. ANSTRUTHER, St. Andrew's Burgh) (for the LORD ADVOCATE)In the absence of my right hon. friend I am asked to say that it is impossible to give any exhaustive definition of the schools which come within the scope of the paragraph referred to, as each ease must be judged on its own merits. But generally it may be said that the schools intended are those which come within the terms of Section 2 (1) (b) of the Educa- 1070 tion and Local Taxation Act, 1892, and are not eligible to share in the Parliamentary Grant.
