HC Deb 05 June 1899 vol 72 c299
MR. JAMES LOWTIIER (Kent, Thanet)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether there is any truth in the rumour that several of the criminals convicted of the murder of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr. Thomas Henry Burke are about to be set at liberty.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (MR. G. W. BALFOUR, Leeds, Central)

There is now only one convict undergoing sentence in connection with the murders of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr. Burke. The consideration of his position is for the Lord Lieutenant, and I have nothing to add to the reply given by His Excellency, and published in the Press, to the petition presented to him by the Corporation of Dublin on the 7th April last.
