HC Deb 28 July 1899 vol 75 c674
SIR CHARLES CAMERON (Glasgow, Bridgeton)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps have been taken under the new prison rules to inform prisoners incarcerated in default of payment of fines of the recent change in the law, which provides for their working out their sentence partly by money payment and partly by imprisonment.

* THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir M. WHITE RIDLEY,) Lanes, Blackpool

Governors of prisons have been instructed to inform these prisoners on reception of the change in the law, and the communication which is sent, if the prisoner wishes it, to his friends with regard to payment, has also been altered in accordance with the new law.
