HC Deb 14 July 1899 vol 74 cc883-4
MR. J. P. SMITH (Lanark, Partick)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate, on behalf of the Secretary for Scotland, whether he will grant a Departmental Committee to inquire into the classification and treatment of prisoners in Scotland, similar to that which sat in 1895 for England under the chairmanship of the right hon. Member for West Leeds.

* MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAY

I do not know of any reason for granting a general inquiry into the prison system in Scotland. If, however, the hon. Member on the discussion on the Estimates is able to bring to my notice any point on which inquiry would be desirable, the Secretary for Scotland will be glad to consider his suggestion.

MR. J. P. SMITH

I will bring up the question on the Estimates.
