HC Deb 10 July 1899 vol 74 c312
MR. PICKERSGILL

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the heavy penalties, namely, fines of one guinea each, in addition to costs, imposed by the Buckinghamshire magistrates at Marlow on Friday last upon two labouring men for the non-vaccination of their children; and whether he will consider these cases, with a view to the mitigation of the penalties, so as to avoid the committal of two respectable men to prison.

* SIR M. WHITE RIDLEY

I have fully inquired into the circumstances of this case and the position of the defendants, and find no ground for intervention.
