§ MAJOR RASCH (Essex, S.E.)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether it is proposed to send the Carabineers to India in the trooping sea- 597 son of 1899; and if he could explain why this regiment, which only returned from India in 1888, should be detailed for foreign service before the 15th, 14th, 13th, 10th Regiments of Hussars, and 12th Lancers, which corps all returned from India previous to 1888?
MR. POWELL WILLIAMSThe Carabineers will go to India in the trooping season of 1900. Their position on the foreign service roster was advanced four years in order to obtain as soon as possible a due proportion of the number of Dragoon regiments abroad to that at home. The regiment when it goes abroad will have been 12 years at home.
