LUTTRELL (Devon, Tavistock)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the fatal boxing contest which took place at Cape Town on Monday, 6th February, in which a private of the King's Royal Rifle Corps was engaged, and in which his opponent lost his life; and whether, out of consideration for the maintenance of the respect in which the British Army is universally held, as well as on the grounds of expediency, he will take such steps as to prevent the soldiers in Her Majesty's Army taking part in such contests?
§ MR. WYNDHAMNO report on this matter has reached the War Office. The Secretary of State for War does not propose to prohibit soldiers from taking part in any lawful pastime.
