HC Deb 20 February 1899 vol 66 c1430
SIR JAMES FERGUSSON (Manchester, N. E.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made since the last Session of Parliament in obtaining the agreement of the Powers concerned to the establishment of the lights required for the safe navigation of the southern portion of the Red Sea and of the Gulf of Aden?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. ST. JOHN BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

An exchange of views is taking place with the French Government on the subject, but the negotiations have not reached a sufficiently advanced stage to enable me to make any further statement in regard to them at the present time.
