HC Deb 20 February 1899 vol 66 c1459
MR. DALY

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he is aware that the Duke of Abercorn and the Marquis of Hamilton sent letters and telegrams to meetings urging the election of Mr. Herdman, Unionist candidate for the city of Londonderry; and that the telegrams and letters referred to were sent after the issue of the writ; and, what steps does he propose to take to prevent Peers in Ireland from interfering in the election of Members of Parliament?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I have nothing to add to the observations I have made in a case similar to the one the honourable Gentleman has brought before me.
