HC Deb 17 February 1899 vol 66 c1266
MR. CAREW (Dublin, College Green)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether he has seen the resolution of the Irish Cattle Traders' and Stockowners' Association protesting against the supply of foreign produce to the troops and troop horses stationed in Ireland to the injury of the home producers, who have to pay taxes for the support of both troops and horses; and whether he will take steps to remedy this grievance?

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE WAR OFFICE (Mr. J. POWELL WILLIAMS,) Birmingham, S.

The Secretary of State has read the resolution of the Irish Cattle Traders' and Stock-Owners' Association. Every care, consistent with the interests of the taxpayers generally, is taken to encourage the supply of native produce.
