HC Deb 17 February 1899 vol 66 c1282
MR. MORRIS (Kilkenny, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland is he aware that Ireland is being rapidly denuded of trees, and will he advise the Government to take some steps towards replanting; and is he aware that a large proportion of lands now returned in the official list as wooded is mere coppice?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

There has not been sufficient time since notice of this Question was given to obtain detailed information as to the statements contained in either the first or second paragraphs. In any case, however, the question of replanting is not one which could be dealt with in anticipation of the establishment of the Department of Agriculture.
