HC Deb 14 February 1899 vol 66 c860
SIR THOMAS SUTHERLAND () Greenock

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if any steps are in contemplation by Her Majesty's Government to secure the removal, or to nullify the effect, of the Continental sugar bounties?

MR. BRODRICK

The Belgian Government are still pursuing the negotiations committed to them by the mandate of the late Conference at Brussels, through the diplomatic channel, and in the meanwhile it would be premature for the British Government to take further action in the matter.
