§ MR. FLYNNI beg to ask Mr. Attorney-General for Ireland whether he is aware that at the last Winter Assizes held in Cork, Michael Minogue, a young lad 15 years of age, indicted for posting a threatening notice, was put on his trial a second time, the jury having disagreed on the first occasion; and, were these proceedings taken with the concurrence of the Law Advisers of the Crown in Ireland?
§ MR. ATKINSONIt is the fact that the prisoner referred to, who was, as I am informed, 17, and not 15, years of age, was put on his trial a second time, as it has never been understood that the age of a prisoner protects him from a second investigation of the charge against him. The answer to the second paragraph is in the affirmative.
§ MR. FLYNNIn this case, also, were not a large number of jurors ordered to stand aside, as in the case mentioned in the last Question?
§ MR. ATKINSONNot that I am aware of.
§ MR. W. REDMONDI call it a scandalous practice.
