HC Deb 09 February 1899 vol 66 c335
SIR WILLIAM WEDDERBURN (Banffshire)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India, whether he is aware that public attention in India has lately been directed to various suggestions for a forward movement in the direction of Tibet; and, whether he will undertake that, in the event of such a movement being made beyond the Indian frontiers, no expense in connection with it shall be imposed upon the taxpayers of India?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON,) Middlesex, Ealing

I understand that some suggestions of the kind indicated in the honourable Member's Question have been made by irresponsible persons; but, as nothing of the sort has come under my consideration I am unable to say anything further on the subject.
