HC Deb 09 February 1899 vol 66 cc330-1
MR. KEARLEY (Devonport)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, whether the French continue to occupy military or other posts in the Bahr-el-Ghazal; and, if so, what negotiations are proceeding to ensure their withdrawal.

MR. BRODRICK

It has been impossible to receive information from the Bahr-el-Gazal as that district according to a report from Fashoda early in December was completely closed by the sudd. Discussions are taking place with a view to settling a line of delimitation between the French and Anglo-Egyptian spheres; but no information as to their details can at present be given.
