CALDWELL (Lanarkshire, Mid)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that on November 22nd last a serious collision occurred at Orton station, on the Highland Railway, between a cattle train from Forres to Keith and a passenger train from Keith to Forres; and will he state whether any official inquiry has been held by the Board of Trade in regard to the accident; and, if not, will he explain on what grounds.
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. RITCHIE,) CroydonNo person was returned as injured, and as the cause of the accident was clearly explained, a formal investigation was not made. The case was considered, however, by Sir Francis Marindin, and his views were communicated to the company by the Department in correspondence.
