§ MR. T. B. CURRAN (Donegal, N.)I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether Mr. Andrew Carnegie has been appointed a justice of the peace for Sutherlandshire, and whether he is a naturalised British subject.
§ MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAYI have no knowledge of the fact except that I saw in the newspapers that Mr. Andrew Carnegie has been appointed a deputy lieutenant. I am not aware whether he has received letters of administration; but if he has not, it is quite clear that as an alien he is unable to serve as a justice of the peace, and it must have been unknown, both to the Lord Lieutenant and the Lord Chancellor, when the appointment was made.
