GENERAL RUSSELLI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether it is true that no discharged soldiers are employed in the Royal Irish Constabulary or in the Dublin Police; and, if so, what is the cause of this restriction, and whether he can see his, way to have it forthwith removed.
§ MR. G. W. BALFOURIt is not true that no soldiers are employed in the Royal Irish Constabulary or the Dublin. Metropolitan Police. There is no restriction upon the admission of discharged, soldiers to either force provided they are in all respects eligible, and, as a matter of fact, there are a number of ex-soldiers at. present serving in both forces.
