HC Deb 13 April 1899 vol 69 c972
MR. STEADMAN

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster-General, whether it is customary for the Department, as stated in the evidence given before Lord Tweedmouth's Committee by Mr. Lewin Hill (Question 11,679), to provide easier duties for officers who are, through advancing years or other natural causes, incapable of performing their full ordinary duties?

THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL ON EDUCATION (Sir J. GORST,) Cambridge University

My right honourable Friend has asked me to reply to the Question in his absence. There is no such custom generally, but in the case of town postmen, to whom the evidence referred, the Postmaster-General is glad, if opportunity offers, to allow an easier walk to a postman who has been long in the service than to a junior man.
