HC Deb 13 April 1899 vol 69 cc975-6
SIR BARRINGTON SIMEON () Southampton

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he will give an order that glycerinated calf lymph should be kept in a sufficient quantity at the Local Government Board; and whether he will order that such lymph should be supplied to certified medical men on application, so that in future medical officers of health should not have to send to Switzerland for lymph as they occasionally have to do at present?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. H. CHAPLIN,) Lincs., Sleaford

All public vaccinators are at present supplied with glycerinated calf lymph, and a sufficient quantity of the lymph is kept at the Local Government Board for that purpose. But I am not in a position at present to undertake to extend the distribution of that lymph to an additional 16,000 or 17,000 private practitioners in England and Wales.

SIR. BARRINGTON SIMEON

Will it be necessary, then, in the future to send to Switzerland for the lymph?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD

Certainly not in the case of the public vaccinators, and I should say private practitioners will be able to get it in England.
