HC Deb 24 May 1898 vol 58 c541
MR. DILLON

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Local Government Board have refused a re-count of the votes in the recent poor law election held in the Bellaghy Division of the Magherafelt Union; whether a statement has been laid before the Board by one of the defeated candidates alleging that several ratepayers entitled to vote received no papers, and that in consequence of this illegal proceeding he was defeated by one vote; and whether it is customary in such cases to grant a re-count or inquiry?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I have no knowledge of the matters alleged in this Question, but I have referred it for inquiry to the Local Government Board.
